I Stayed at the Disneyland Hotel: Here Are My Honest Thoughts

For years, my husband and I have always stayed at Good Neighbor hotels on our Disneyland trips. They're close, they're convenient, and they get the job done.

But this July, we were celebrating the 4th of July in the parks for the first time (and doing our very first VIP Tour, which you can read all about here!), so we decided to make it extra special and finally book four nights at the Disneyland Hotel.

Spoiler alert: we only ever want to stay on property now.

In this post, I'm sharing my honest Disneyland Hotel review: what our room was like, the pool (my favorite part!!), where we ate, how far it is from the parks, and who I think this hotel is perfect for (and who might want to book somewhere else).

Our Stay at a Glance

  • Who: Just me and my husband (no kids this time!)

  • When: 4 nights over 4th of July weekend

  • Room: Standard Room in the Frontier Tower

  • Best for: Couples and families with one little one

  • Would I stay again? Absolutely! In fact, I'm going back in December.

Arriving at the Disneyland Hotel

We took a rideshare and got dropped off right at the entrance, where we were greeted immediately. Check-in was so quick and easy. We grabbed our room keys and park maps from the front desk and were on our way.

And then we walked into the lobby.

It felt so magical. The classic Disney theming is everywhere, and you can tell right away you're somewhere special. And the smell!! The Disneyland Hotel has its own signature scent, and it's honestly one of the things I remember most about our stay.

Our Standard Room in the Frontier Tower

Our room had that classic Disney theming with darker, cozy tones, a historic photo of Walt, and my favorite detail of all: the musical headboard. It's so pretty, and it's the kind of little touch that makes you feel like you never really left the park.

Standard two queen room at The Disneyland Hotel

Here's my honest take on the rest of the room:

  • The bed: So comfy! The bed and pillows were great, and we slept really well every night.

  • Noise: Not noisy at all. The only thing we heard was a door closing nearby every now and then.

  • The bathroom: Nothing fancy, and it felt a little dated compared to the rest of the hotel. But the shampoo and soap smell so good (yes, I'm talking about the smell again...).

  • Storage: This is where the room felt tight. Storage was limited even for just the two of us, and there wasn't much counter space by the bathroom sink.

Would I recommend a standard room for a family of four?

Honestly, no.

The room is on the smaller side, and we agreed that even if we'd brought our son, it would have felt pretty tight. If you're traveling with a bigger family, I'd look at a larger room type or a different hotel (more on that below!).

The Pool (My Favorite Part!!)

If you're deciding whether the Disneyland Hotel is worth it, the pool might be what tips you over the edge.

The pool is half chlorine, half salt water, and the water felt so soft. I loved it! The pool area has fun monorail-themed waterslides too, and the whole space has the most relaxing tropical vibes.

And the best part? Dole Whip is right there. You can grab one at Tangaroa Terrace without ever leaving the pool area. Pool day + Dole Whip = the perfect Disneyland midday break.

Getting a Dole Whip at the Tangaroa Terrace when you’re at the Disneyland Hotel pool is the best!

Where We Ate at the Disneyland Hotel

We ate at two spots on property:

  • Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar: So fun and so refreshing after a hot day in the parks.

  • Tangaroa Terrace: A quick-service spot overlooking the pool with tropical bites and drinks.

Both were so good and so refreshing in the July heat. My must-order? The Dole Whip!

Exploring the Hotel

One of my favorite things to do was explore the other towers to see their theming. Each building has its own personality, so it's worth taking a little stroll around the property.

There's also a shop that's great for souvenirs (perfect if you forgot something or want one more Mickey item...), and I loved having a coffee shop right there in the mornings.

How Far Is the Disneyland Hotel From the Parks?

It took us about 12 minutes to walk to the park entrance, and the walk goes right through Downtown Disney, which is half the fun!

We also took a midday break at the hotel, and it helped so much. Walking back through Downtown Disney, cooling off at the pool, and heading back into the parks for the evening made our 4th of July days feel so much less exhausting.

But my favorite thing about the location? We never had to leave the Disney bubble. No crossing busy streets, no shuttle, no rideshare back to the hotel. Just magic from morning to night.

Disneyland Hotel vs. Good Neighbor Hotels

Since we usually stay at Good Neighbor hotels (like The Anaheim Hotel), I can honestly say the difference is in the feeling.

A Good Neighbor hotel is a great place to sleep. The Disneyland Hotel feels like part of your vacation. From the lobby to the pool to the music playing when you open your door, you're immersed in Disney the whole time.

After this stay, my husband and I agreed: we only ever want to stay on property now.

Who Is the Disneyland Hotel Best For?

Would I recommend it to couples? Absolutely!

Would I recommend it to families with one little one? Absolutely!

Would I recommend a standard room for a family of four? I'd probably steer you toward something bigger.

The Disneyland Hotel might not be the best fit if:

  • You want to be as close to the parks as possible. The Grand Californian is right next to Disney California Adventure and has its own entrance.

  • You want to save money. Pixar Place is usually the more budget-friendly Disneyland Resort hotel.

Not sure which hotel is right for your family? That's exactly where I can help!

My Professional Recommendation

If you book the Disneyland Hotel, pay for a room with a view.

Our standard room was lovely, but looking back, I really wish we'd paid for a Downtown Disney view. When you're spending this much time at the hotel, a great view makes the whole stay feel even more special.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Disneyland Hotel worth it?
For us, yes! The theming, the pool, and the convenience of staying on property made our trip feel so much more magical. Just pick the right room size for your group.

How far is the Disneyland Hotel from the parks?
About a 10–15 minute walk through Downtown Disney. It took us about 12 minutes. The Downtown Disney monorail station is also nearby and drops you off in Tomorrowland inside Disneyland Park.

How much does the Disneyland Hotel cost?
Rates for a standard room started around $580/night after tax when I stayed (July 2026). The easiest way to find the best price for your dates is to request a free quote!

Do Disneyland Hotel guests get any perks?
Yes! As of January 2026, Disneyland Resort hotel guests get one free Lightning Lane Multi-Pass entry per guest, per stay (this replaced the old Early Entry perk). You'll also get the magic of staying right in the Disney bubble.

Can a family of four stay in a standard room?
Standard rooms can technically sleep more, but in my experience the room felt small even for two adults. For a family of four, I'd recommend a larger room type.

What's the best part of the Disneyland Hotel?
The pool, no question!
